Whatever your level, from beginner to advanced, Tide and Kiva Rivers offer one-on-one, two-on-one, or small group Private Maui Surfing Lessons & Adventures created especially for you, your friends or your family. In a world filled with cookie cutter experiences, a morning or afternoon surfing with two Maui born and bred surfers is an Experience to Remember for a Lifetime.

Especially for those of you who may be coming to Maui for the Maui Film Festival at Wailea, it is worth noting that Tide and Kiva are the twin sons of Barry & Stella Rivers, founders and directors of the Maui Film Festival, and serve as the festival's Private VIP Surf Instructors for entertainment A-Listers and captains of industry.

Semi-Private Lessons for 2 People: $ 220, 2 hour class
Group Surf Lessons for 3-4 people: $75 per person, 2 hour class

Maui SURF SCHOOL LOCATION

Our surf lessons take place at Ukumehame Park, which is about 15 minutes from Kaanapali Resort and 20 minutes from Wailea Resort. Click for detailed map.


Sample Beginner lesson
Your Maui surfing lessons start on the beach with getting you suited up with your correct sized booties, rashguards, and surfboards. Then we will go through a 10-15 minute water safety briefing, along with a demonstration on the best ways to paddle your surfboard, get into waves, how to stand up, and stay up!

After paddling out together where the waves are breaking, your surf instructor will be there to coach and guide you into the rides of your life! We will work on correct wave etiquette, style, and technique. The lesson will be two hours of fun and excitement!

Tide and Kiva were born and raised growing up surfing Maui's North Shore waves. Every day is an adventure for them, surfing the best waves Maui has to offer. They have both had the chance to travel the world surfing exotic destinations such as: Tahiti, Indonesia, South America, Europe, Mexico and Canada. They also really enjoy paddle boarding, tow in surfing, mountain biking, playing ukulele and training for the next big swell!

Tide enjoys being more of a soul surfer which enables him to travel and surf freely. He enjoys competing in the Maui local surf contests for fun. The Rivers brothers along with their two other instuctors are all CPR / Lifeguard certified.

Kiva is sponsored by Honolua Surf Co., a sponsor which promotes the waterman life style. He has competed in such events as the 32 Mile Molokai to Oahu Paddle Board Race as well as traveling the world competing on the ASP Longboard World Tour.
